Car and Boat Trailers
South Coast Leisure Service can carry out a full service on all types of trailers including car and boat trailers. It is recommended by The National Trailer and Towing association that boat trailers which are being immersed in water are serviced every 3000 miles or every 3-6 months, depending on use. Frequency of Servicing and Checks for Trailers and car trailers, camping trailers, car transporters, flat bed trailers, goods trailers, plant trailers, van trailers, motorcycle and bicycle trailers and horse, pony and livestock trailers is very important as your insurance may be void if not properly maintained. You will also greatly reduce the chances of having a trailer related incident.
Some of the aspects included in a service:
- Coupling – grease head/drawtube and linkages. Check breakaway cable and damper travel. Remove and grease jockey wheel mechanism. Check handbrake operation.
- Wheels/hubs/brakes/tyres – remove wheels and check tyres for wear and damage and date. Remove hubs and check for damage to hubs and brake shoes. Clean and grease bearings/brake shoes and moving parts, check condition of Bowden cables (adjust expander as req).
- Electrical – check plug wiring (including fly lead), clean electrical contacts and inside lights and check for corrosion and bulb failure.
- Body – check all body panels for signs of fatigue and damage. Check all fasteners are present and in good working order. Check Flooring.
